Moments of apprehension on Tuesday morning in Macerata.

Around 11.30 the “Volante” police officers intervened in Piazza Nazario Sauro, where multiple calls from citizens to 112 had reported an individual intent on kicking vehicles in transit at the roundabout overlooking the square.

The subject, of whom a brief description was provided, was immediately identified by the officers but, upon seeing the police car, he moved away in the direction of Via Trieste in an attempt to evade control. Immediately reached, the man began to rant and gesticulate conspicuously against the police, despite various attempts to bring him back to calm. At a certain point the subject lifted a concrete slab of the type used to anchor umbrellas to the ground and threw it at the operators who, only thanks to their quick reflexes, avoided being hit by it; at this point the officers used the Taser, thanks to which they safely blocked the subject and, with the help of a Carabinieri patrol that had arrived on site in the meantime, took the man to the Police Headquarters offices where, at the end of the investigations, he was arrested for the crimes of violence and resistance to a public official.

The man, identified as a 30-year-old Gambian citizen, homeless in Italy, with police prejudice for brawling, injuries, resistance and violence against a public official, was detained at the police headquarters at the disposal of the judicial authority in waiting for the hearing to validate the arrest which will be held tomorrow morning at the Court of Macerata.
