The fifth meeting of “The Librarian’s Readings” will be held on Tuesday 11 June at 5pm in the Presidential Hall of the Economic Society of Chiavari, thus continuing the journey between the Fantastic and the disturbing: the second of two readings dedicated to science fiction, or to put it in the American way, Science-Fiction (SF).

In the 1960s, the award-winning firm Fruttero & Lucentini, the couple who in those years edited Mondadori’s historic Urania magazine, coined a joke that later remained in the annals of science fiction: “A flying saucer cannot land in Lucca”.

Historically, the language in which the stories of many precursors and of the SF of the “Sense of Wonder” of the second half of the last century were written was English. However, in the following decades, the literature of “anticipation” has grown all over the world, exploring spaces of all kinds – external, among the stars, or internal to man himself and his society – and populated by aliens of all sorts.

“We will continue the exploration of the internal and external, human and alien universe of the literary and creative territories of SF, always in the company of Brown and Sheckley, main authors of short fiction, meeting other Italian and foreign authors, well-known and less well-known, recent and seasoned,” says Enrico Rovegno, head of the Library of the Economic Society of Chiavari and creator of the event.

“We hope to amaze you on the one hand and disturb you on the other, but in short to excite you about the curiosity of reading. And then, for the last event dedicated to children… we are preparing a magical night,” concludes Miro Gatti.

We look forward to seeing many of you for a new fascinating journey into science fiction!
