Steve Bannon turned himself in a few hours ago at the Danbury prison in Connecticut. Here, Donald Trump’s former strategist will have to serve a four-month prison sentence for contempt of Congress. The American Supreme Court, in fact, rejected last week the last appeal against the conviction presented by the guru of the American far right who had refused to testify about his role in the assault on Congress in front of the House inquiry committee. Bannon himself told the American media that his release is scheduled for October 31, during the week preceding the presidential elections. Trump’s former strategist at the White House called himself “a political prisoner”. “I’m proud to go to prison. Not only do I have no regrets, I’m proud of what I’ve done”, he then added.
The Future in the Race for President
Before donning the orange prison jumpsuit, Bannon recorded an episode of his popular podcast ‘War Room’ near the penitentiary, which, he said, “will only get bigger and more powerful” during his detention. He is, among other things, the second Trump adviser to be indicted for this crime. After 4 months, in fact, Peter Navarro will be released from prison on July 17. Bannon, as mentioned, will have to wait a few more months. In the meantime, he said, he will read books, write campaign emails and continue to support the tycoon. And he prophesied that Joe Biden will leave the presidential race. “Trump’s victory in the debate is a Pyrrhic victory. He will get rid of a rival he knows he can beat well and an unknown quantity will emerge,” Bannon then argued, explaining that the president will not be able to survive the collapse in the polls. But if Biden drops out, he continued, he will catch Trump’s campaign off guard, taking away his weakest opponent. “They will look for a messiah and then there will be a honeymoon, but when it comes to the Democratic convention in August, whoever it is, Michelle Obama or Gavin Newsom, they will start with a minimum disadvantage of five to seven points,” he stressed from his point of view.
