SS18, where death lurks

164

A year later, another tragedy. Same place – we are talking, in fact, about a distance of a few hundred meters – same very heavy toll of three deaths. Where it happened a year ago, near a roundabout, there are still signs on the pavement today, in the form of fragments of windshield, as if to remind us that in these parts it is necessary to drive with the utmost caution. Two similar fatal accidents, one year apart, 3 elderly people died last year, three elderly people died instantly this time. The fatalist would stop at coincidence, the pragmatist at the law of large numbers. But there is a need for decision makers, for someone capable of expertly evaluating what the critical points of state road 18 are, and there are some: from the poor lighting to the adjacent streets that converge on the main artery from which they often emerge ‘suddenly other cars, up to the lack of a measure to be applied urgently and peremptorily to discourage those who habitually speed at full speed as if they were on the Monza circuit. This is a dangerous road and it is best to take note of it once and for all, however in summer the dangers increase because the flow of vehicles increases and, unfortunately, in many cases also the blood alcohol level of those behind the wheel.
