Scouts of yesterday and today for the 50 years of Agesci

Double occasion of celebrations for the Fossano Scout Group on Sunday 2 June. The meeting for the conclusion of the activities of the year 2023-2024 also coincided with the 50th anniversary of the birth of Agesci (the union in 1974 between the Italian Catholic Scouts association and the Italian Guides Association).

Already in the early hours of the morning, Cubs, Explorers and Guides, accompanied by their respective leaders, met in the city park, in Piazza Castello and in Piazza Vittorio Veneto before they all converged at the Hippotherapy Center in via della Cartiera.

This year was shared by thirty-five Cubs led by Akela (Gabriele Brizio), Baghira (Sara Lingua), Fratel Bigio (Fabio Fresia), Ikki (Federico Manera) and Kaa (Marco Revello) and by thirty boys from the Department followed by Giacomo Giaccardi , Giorgio Nasi, Filippo Origlia and Chiara Santini. Lorena Clerico is head of the Novitiate. Of the Co.Ca. (Community Leaders) include Samuele Berrino, Eleonora Munari, Anthony Ardolino, Giulia Lingua and Matteo Operti. In the large lawn of the center, the 99 of the Sherinawa Group started singing and dancing before renewing, together with many of the past generations, the Promise in an atmosphere of great joy and sharing.

Clan Chief Matteo Operti then introduced the speeches of two veterans called to testify to the impact that scouting has had on their lives.

This is what Roberto Rimonda said: “It is difficult to summarize the fifteen years I spent in the scouts, years of great fun in which I discovered friendship, which still continues today, deep and fraternal with many adventure companions. Beautiful images come to mind: the nights spent observing the stars, the fatigue in the rain during the fields, the laughter in the tents, exploring a cave crawling with a light on your head or canoeing along the river. Then, as an older adult, my commitment to service activities brought me closer to the world of disability and solidarity. Scouting is one of the possible tools for growing, for learning to experience the complexity of human relationships; stimulates autonomy, guides us towards essential values, helps us become responsible and more aware citizens. I recommend it to everybody”.

A testimony of personal transformation was that of Noemi Cravero: “I want to talk about a shy and melancholic 4th grade girl who had a lot of difficulty in exposing herself, in drawing attention to herself. With difficulty, but without giving up, also thanks to her old wolves, she then came to live in the Department and continue until she became part of the Clan. A path that changed me and allowed the decisive character to emerge which then led me to decidedly positive professional (I deal with communication) and personal life choices.”

Immediately afterwards, the scouts of yesterday and today arranged themselves in an orderly manner to renew the Promise with the enthusiasm and solemnity required. The appointment ended with a shared lunch and mass celebrated in the afternoon by Don Mattia Dutto.

Summer camps

There remains great anticipation for the summer camps: the Cubs will be busy from 4 to 11 August in Cantalupa (Turin) where there is a scout base camp, the Department will face the nautical camp in Salbetrand, in the upper Val Susa, from 2 to 11 August, while the Clan will be involved in the “Alta via dei Giganti” Route in Val d’Aosta from 12 to 17 August.
