FRANCAVILLA FONTANA – Not only potholes, depressions and various and possible rough edges, but also sand, gravel and no guardrails for six metres. A municipal manager of Francavilla Fontana was sued following the complaint lodged by two motorcyclists who had a disastrous fall while crossing a slip road in the countryside of the Città degli Imperiali. At the time of the events, the accused was responsible for the municipality’s road networks.
He is defended by the lawyer Antonio Andrisano. According to the Brindisi prosecutor’s office, the crime of negligent personal injury is committed: the conditions of the road are believed to be the basis of the motorcycle accident which dates back to 27 April 2019. The manager will be able to defend himself from the contested charges before the justice of the peace of Brindisi, doctor Anna Rizzo, starting from the first hearing set for October 1, 2024.
The summons, which dates back to January, is signed by the public prosecutor Antonio De Donno. After the fall, the two motorcyclists suffered fractures and various injuries, reported at the emergency room of the Francavilla Fontana hospital. For both, the prognosis is 25 days. The two, aboard a BMW, were crossing the countryside of Francavilla Fontana. Having arrived on the road that connects the intermodal center to Francavilla, near the roundabout that intersects state road 603 (which leads to San Giorgio Jonico) and the so-called ring road, they were involved in an accident.
According to the complaints, the cause is to be found in the conditions of the road which “appeared to be irregular in several sections, with the presence of potholes, depressions and roughness due to limited cracks as well as the presence of inert sandy/gravel material, and before the arm of roundabout without guardrails on the right side for approximately six metres”. Finally, the dynamics were instead reconstructed in these terms: the driver, around 10pm, lost control of the vehicle due to the conditions of the asphalt and ended up off the road precisely at the point without a guardrail.
