Rosignano accident, car hits vehicles in queue: domino effect. Three died instantly and 6 injured, including two children. Hypothesis of illness while driving

The accident

For the three of them there was no escape, they all died instantly. The bodies were extracted by the firefighters and transported to the Rosignano morgue and are now available to the judicial authorities. In the collision following the first collision, three other cars were involved, a Hyundai Tucson with a Lithuanian license plate, a Tiguan with an Austrian license plate and a Swiss Ford Cmax and the toll booth which was completely demolished.

The injured

Among the six injured, all slightly injured, a 29-year-old woman, a 63-year-old woman, two little brothers aged one and six years and the 35-year-old mother, who were taken to the Livorno hospital, there is also the toll collector, a 44 year old from Cecina. According to an initial reconstruction by the police, it could be precisely an illness of the 61-year-old German who was driving the Honda that triggered the accident. The car arriving at high speed on the group of vehicles queuing at the A12 barrier triggered a domino effect which ended up destroying part of the toll booth itself.

The reconstruction

LThe traffic police will ask to acquire the video surveillance footage in order to analyze it in search of any useful elements to clarify the causes of the accident which occurred at the Rosignano toll booth (Livorno) in which three people died and seven were injured. According to what is learned, there are many hypotheses, according to investigators, on the reasons that could have caused the collision such as, for example, an illness or a malfunction of the car which, from what some witnesses reported to the police, would have arrived at the toll booth without braking.

The rescue

The President of the Region Eugenio Giani immediately announced the accident by activating the hospital disaster manager procedure. The president of the regional council Antonio Mazzeo said he was shocked and immediately expressed the condolences of the Tuscan Assembly. The mayor of Rosignano Daniele Donati also expressed his condolences for the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery. «I followed all the rescue operations – said Donati – starting from 118 and the voluntary associations who immediately worked and we made our civil protection offices available to give support to those who needed it given the closure of the Motorway”.

Massacre on the streets

In the Grosseto area the other accident occurred around 9.30 yesterday. the victims are Mattia Cappellani, 18 years old and Leonardo Di Marte, 38: they both lived in the municipality of Scansano, the first in Pomonte, the second in the hamlet of Preselle. The two were traveling on a Yamaha Mt, the younger on a Ducati Panigale. From what has been reconstructed, the head-on collision would have occurred on a straight stretch, it seems near the center of the road, while Cappellani was proceeding towards Grosseto, Di Marte towards Scansano. Maria Bice Ginesi, mayor of Scansano, asked for greater controls: «Two more deaths – said the mayor – two young lives burned on our roads which, we all know, especially at weekends become tracks where motorcyclists engage in real competitions crazy speed where the limit is 50/70 kilometers per hour.”
