The former Italian and world karate champion Loris Comparin, 46 years old, died from complications of tonsillitis and septicemia. Comparin, originally from Thiene but resident in Arsiero (Vicenza), as reported by local newspapers, had been hospitalized.

It was the president of Fesik (Italian Karate Sports Educational Federation) Sean Henke who broke the news of his passing: “This is news I never wanted to hear – he wrote in a Facebook post. – Loris was a wonderful guy, which it would have been impossible not to love. Always cheerful, smiling, jovial. Sometimes a little crazy; that healthy madness of those who love life and want to enjoy every moment of it. He was a great athlete, one of the greatest Fesik has ever had.” Comparin has in fact been a gold medalist 23 times in Italy, three times at European level, four times world champion and twice intercontinental in the Kumite (fighting) specialty.

The friends are in disbelief. “If we had been born in another era, you would have been sung and remembered in the stories around the fire…Warriors like you, in life fight for Respect, for Honour, for Glory…you were the Captain of a national team of fighters…those who met you on the tatami know that you gave a lot and that you always tried to defend your comrades in battle with all of yourself…I won’t be sad for your death – writes a friend – mhappy to have known you and lived for an important part of my life…Thank you Warrior…Thank you Friend…thank you”.
