La Nazione journalism championship: ‘Pontano’ wins gold

Journalism Championship – The day of the Journalism Championship awards is always a moment of great celebration. This year, the Gherlinda Center in Corciano opened its doors to welcome the final stage of this event, which saw the participation of twenty-eight institutions from across the region, including middle and elementary schools.

After four months of hard work, writes Silvia Angelici in La Nazione, the schools presented their projects: investigations, drawings, graphs and newspaper pages packaged with great professionalism. Despite the competition, for us, all schools are winners.

The ‘Pontano’ of Vallo di Nera took gold this year, followed by ‘Leone XIII’ of Perugia, which won silver. The bronze was awarded ex aequo to the ‘Rodari’ elementary school in Cospaia and to the Comprensivo Perugia 13 in Ripa.

The Journalism Championship, an initiative of La Nazione, aims to introduce children to reading newspapers. This project has received the support of many partners, including Pac 2000A Conad and Banca Centro Toscana Umbria, who recognize journalism as a powerful tool for stimulating the active participation of young people in civic life and for fueling a cultural and social debate.

The head of the Umbria nation, Pier Paolo Ciuffi, praised the excellent work of all the schools: “Your articles were published in a newspaper which is celebrating 165 years of existence in 2024. You all won.”

The deputy mayor and councilor for education Gianluca Tuteri underlined the importance of reading, which broadens the mind and stimulates brain capacity. “Material things lose value over time. Knowledge, on the other hand, does not devalue, on the contrary it increases more and more. The brain is like a computer: only by entering knowledge does it progress. Reading is a powerful stimulant of brain capacity and is also good for your health.”
