L’AQUILA – Two under investigation by the L’Aquila Prosecutor’s Office for alleged conflict of interests, these are Mario Quaglieri, councilor for the regional budget and re-elected with FdI as record holder of preferences last 10 March, and Lucia Di Lorenzo, owner of the Di clinic Lorenzo. At the center of the investigation is the role of Quaglieri who worked and works as a surgeon in the clinic but with a working relationship not as an employee. The search by the Carabinieri and the Financial Police arrived on Wednesday.

The case had already been raised with the ANAC, which however declared itself not competent in the matter. According to the opposition, in particular, the role of budget councilor, already exercised in the previous mandate, and doctor at a facility affiliated with the same region was not very transparent.

It is the judicial authority that now wants to shed light on this relationship. Also under scrutiny by the Carabinieri and Finance is the resolution approved at the end of last year with the vote of Quaglieri himself, a resolution which allocated 20 million for private structures and among these the Di Lorenzo clinic.

Di Girolamo (M5S): “Prompt parliamentary question”

“While waiting for the investigation launched by the judiciary to shed full light on the facts alleged against the new budget councilor of the Abruzzo region, I believe it is appropriate, in the interests of the citizens of Abruzzo who have once again placed their trust in this political class, to take stock of the situation and ask the competent ministers what they think of what is happening in Abruzzo. For this reason I have already prepared a parliamentary question.” Thus Senator Gabriella Di Girolamo of the M5S.

“The question is simple and the answer would be so too, if it weren’t for the fact that this right, in Rome as in L’Aquila, is trying to make absurd things “normal”. The question is simple and the answer would be so too, if were it not that this right, in Rome as in L’Aquila, is trying to make absurd things “normal”. Is it appropriate for a councilor of a regional council, former president of the Health Commission, to decide on the funds to be allocated to the private clinic for which he works? Obviously not. Even before conflict of interests, which in my personal opinion seems to exist, we should talk about opportunities. In other words, we should appeal to that sense of duty and institutions that this right-wing whole of homeland, nation and family is careful not to let prevail. On the other hand, I put myself in the shoes of Quaglieri and the council members, who will have thought: “if the owner of a seaside resort can be the Minister of Tourism, and if the Minister of Defense was head of the industrial association Aiad, better known as the “guns lobby”, have you ever seen them start making a fuss about a chief councilor because he participates in decisions on funding to be assigned to the private clinic he works for? This right is like this. Outraged, of course, but not surprising, because this is their way of doing things. Unfortunately for my land and for all the people of Abruzzo, I believe we will see more good things.”
