In Pescara a long procession of tractors and farmers with whistles and flags: Coldiretti’s protest against the invasion of wild boars
The procession unraveled along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, closed to traffic, starting from the central Piazza della Repubblica, with its final destination Piazza Unione, in front of the Regional Council building. Here the most representative association of Italian agriculture, Coldiretti, brought the requests of its members, bent and plagued by continuous raids by wild boars which, by damaging local productions, are bringing the entire category to its knees. The demonstration of the confederation of direct farmers, organized at a national level also in other Italian squares, chose Pescara for the regional gathering of Abruzzo farmers.
“We ask the government for urgent action. – explains Roberto Rampazzo, director of Coldiretti Abruzzo – We need a change of pace on the policies relating to the containment plans for ungulates, which to date have unfortunately proven ineffective”.

Abruzzo. There was also a demonstration of tractors led by young agricultural entrepreneurs.
Hundreds of farmers were present and 150 tractors marched through the streets of the center of Pescara. The event, organized by Coldiretti Abruzzo, saw the largest regional mobilization of the agricultural sector in the Adriatic capital to ask for certain and immediate answers from the national government and the Region.
“The objective of the mobilization – explained the organizers – is to immediately apply at a regional level the measures envisaged by the inter-ministerial decree launched last year for the adoption of an extraordinary plan for the management and containment of wild fauna”.
After the procession, the president of the regional council, Marco Marsilio, and the vice-president and councilor for agriculture, Emanuele Imprudente, met the regional president of Coldiretti, Pietropaolo Martinelli, and the regional director Roberto Rampazzo.
“Wild boars represent the most pressing problem – declared Marsilio – because they have been reproducing uncontrollably for years now. This phenomenon, in addition to altering the faunal balance, on the one hand involves a systematic attack on agricultural land and on the other is proving to be extremely dangerous also for the physical safety of people because many car accidents occur while crossing roads. by wild boars and other wild animals.
As a Region we have adopted a specific Plan also on the basis of what was requested by the National Commissioner against swine fever. This is a plan which in Abruzzo provides for 28 thousand killings and involves all territorial hunting areas, hunting associations, as well as other competent authorities, provincial police and forestry carabinieri. We will ensure that it is put into practice in the best possible way and that the set objectives are respected.”
The vice president of the regional council and councilor for agriculture Emanuele Imprudente confirmed:
“The Plan that Coldiretti requests from the Region already exists in substance. However, within a couple of months, we will approve a new one which will summarize all the actions that must be implemented and which we are already implementing while modifying, at the same time, those relating to the possibility of carrying out controlled culling and also the selection . It is clear that this is a national issue, wild fame is creating conditions of objective difficulty if not impossibility for our farmers and breeders to carry out their activities, especially in some territories and we cannot afford this, as we cannot afford the problems related to road safety and everything that comes with it.”
Also present at the meeting with Coldiretti was the regional councilor, Nicola Campitelli, president of the III Agriculture, Economic Development and Productive Activities Commission.
