QUASSOLO – There are two people who will go to trial for the workplace accident which on 19 July 2021 cost the life of Claudio Giovannino, a 51-year-old horticultural worker resident in Donnas (Valle d’Aosta). The man drowned in Montalto Dora in the canal that feeds the Borgofranco and Quassolo hydroelectric power station, while clearing the bank of vegetation with a brush cutter.

The two owners of the company for which the 51-year-old worked, a company that had the contract for the maintenance of the green areas of the power plant, will go to trial for manslaughter. Four Edison executives and the head of the company’s prevention and protection service were removed from the trial: the Ivrea judge, Valeria Rey, ordered their acquittal for “no reason to proceed”.

According to investigations, that morning, the worker was cutting the grass when he suddenly lost his balance and fell into the water. He drowned in the canal and his body was recovered hours later thanks to the firefighters. The 51-year-old’s family has been compensated and will not be a civil party in the trial. The first hearing has been set for July 19th.
