Between 16 and 17 May 2023 a catastrophic event occurred in much of Romagna: a flood lasting more than 36 hours which poured 250 million cubic meters of water into the area, causing the flooding of 23 rivers and streams and thousands of landslides in 100 different municipalities in Romagna.
The documentary “Tropical Romagna” is a journey through lands, cities, neighborhoods and lives affected, muddied and collapsed as well as a path that leads to the meeting with the writers Wu Ming, with militants who populate an ecosystem of struggles in Romagna and with inhabitants from from the Romagna Apennines to lower Romagna who try to develop counter-readings and analyzes of the catastrophic event and the territory that welcomed it.
Free and irreverent words denounce the shortcomings of the institutions in securing rivers and territories, before and after the flood.
They point the finger at the gears of a capitalist development model incapable of taking a step back regarding the overbuilding of fragile territories, the planning of large road works and the construction of commercial and housing complexes in areas with high or medium flood risk.
All this in a historical period in which a change of environmental paradigm should be imposed at every level, from politics to the economy, passing through society and culture as a whole.
