Juvi amazing, but that’s not enough: Udine wins 95-90 after overtime

Good performance for Ferraroni Juvi Cremona in game 2 of the playoffs at the PalaCarnera in Udine, coach Bechi’s men are the protagonists of a solid match, in the balance until the end and the Friulians are not enough in regulation 40 minutes to take a 2-0 lead in the match series because il 95 to 90 after a hard-fought overtime.

Udine started better and immediately took the lead with a partial of 7 to 0. The first quarter saw the Friulians restart as they had finished game 1, while the Juvi trying to take measures and stay in touch with the game. At the first siren the teams are 24 to 16 for Apu Udine.

Ferraroni’s defensive intensity increases and Gaspardo and his teammates no longer find easy baskets, while on the other side with Timperi particularly on the ball, Ferraroni extends further until theyenter the locker room leading 40 to 33, with 9 points and 5 rebounds from Timperi and 6 from Virginio and Tortù. Udine did badly from the line with a 4/11, while Juvi did well from the arc (7/13).

Upon returning to the field there even comes a double-digit advantage for Cremona (37-47) signed by Vincini, then Udine takes the field again and gets back to -6, forcing Bechi to call time out. After the burst at the beginning of the third quarter, however, it was Udine who seemed more lucid and, in a flash, they regained a one-possession gap with Cremona who had now exhausted the bonus. When the game seems about to change masters, Timperi with a three-point play and a winning penetration brings Cremona back to +6 (46-52). It’s the beginning of a new tear for Ferraroni who scores a partial score of 10 to 0 which is worth +13. The match becomes increasingly nervous and following protests for yet another unpunished foul, Bechi gets a technical. The quarter ends with Juvi a +9 at 53-62with Tortù rising to 15 points and 12 Timperi with 9 rebounds.

Ferraroni regained a double-digit lead at the start of the quarter, but the reaction of the Friulians was imperious and with triples from Monaldi, Caroti and Gaspardo they put everything back into play (62-64). Everything to do again for Cremona who is in trouble and is forced to play without Shahid who is sent back to the bench with four fouls. Cotton scores a triple for +4, Gaspardo responds from the corner, but there is still half a quarter left to try to even the score in game 2. Caroti, 16 points for him, scores the equalizing triple from far away (69- 69), then Monaldi brings his team back ahead from the line (71 to 69), Shahid responds with the bomb for -1. One minute from the siren the teams are tied again 75-75. Apu regains the advantage, Tortù responds and then Benetti is the author of the block on Caroti which sends everyone to overtime.

Udine regains the advantage in the final minutes of overtime and Cremona, lacking oxygen, makes a lot of mistakes, paving the way for their opponents. At the last turn of the clock Udine is at +3 and is keeping good guard, blocking Juvi’s offensive maneuvers. With 5″ to go the Friulians are 4 points ahead and they close it with Alibegovic from the line for the 95 to 90 final.

Tortù is the best on the scoresheet with 28 points and 7 rebounds for a 33 rating, Cotton also in double figures with 15 and 7 assists, Timperi with 12 and 10 rebounds, Shahid with 10 points.

Now the series moves to PalaRadi on Saturday at 8.30pm for game 3.
