Vico Equense. This afternoon in Moiano inauguration of “Pope Francis” Senior Citizens Center.
The former mayor of Vico Equense, Andrea Buonocoreintervenes on the topic with a post published on his Facebook page: «Today a new stronghold of sociality is inaugurated in Moiano.
The “Pope Francis” elderly center, strongly desired and supported by the Parish of Moiano, opens its doors to all the elderly people of the community.
The project, sought and desired by Salvatore Buonocore and Pietro Buonocore who make social issues the focal point of their existence, together with many volunteers and supporters, finally sees the light.
The elderly represent our roots.
They are the witnesses of our past.
They are the social safety net that allows many families to live a dignified life.
Lifestyles are changing and increasingly putting our “fathers”, our “grandfathers”, at the center of family life.
At the same time there are many elderly people who are alone, unemployed, who struggle to find their own role in society. The “Pope Francis” senior center aims to welcome everyone in order to become a meeting point for the “historical memory” of our Community. A place of aggregation capable of acting as a meeting place between the need to still feel useful and the need not to lose the connection with one’s origins and history.
I hope that many elderly people feel the need to enter into relationships with each other and share what they have done in their lives in order to find a role not only in the family in the strict sense, but also in the family in the broad sense represented by our Community.
I see the establishment of the “Pope Francis” center for the elderly as covering an institutional void. Where public institutions do not reach, the Church and social commitment arrive.
The Parish has become the interpreter of this wonderful project, one of a kind.
I hope that it finds broad consensus, acceptance and sharing so that our fathers and grandfathers, who have given so much to the growth of our Community, can find new stimuli in the center for the elderly to give so much more.”
