CUPRA MARITTIMA – Flames in Cupra in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. The San Benedetto fire brigade team on the night shift worked for a few hours to put out the probable fire malicious origin broke out in the Sant’Andrea district.

The alarm at midnight

It happened around midnight and the report to 115 came thanks to some cars, which, passing on the highway, initially noticed the smoke and then the fire. The flames had taken root on the vegetation that is located close to the road that cuts the district in two and which, reconnecting to the Cuprense, leads to the municipal area of Ripatransone. The firefighters resolved the fire, which had been started recently, bringing the situation back to a safe condition. The origin of the fire could be arson and this would mean that the arsonist, never identified by the police, has returned to act, taking advantage of the rise in temperatures in recent days and the strong wind blowing on the Riviera.

The investigations

The Cupra police are investigating, although it is not easy to trace the arson with certainty, as the firefighters did not find any elements useful for the investigation.

Pyromaniac hypothesis

However, given the climate and the period, it is almost impossible for the cause to be accidental, and precisely for these reasons, arson is the lead that the police are following, especially because there are many precedents in the area: the last one dates back to 31 December 2023, when as many as 200 round bales of hay covered by sheets caught fire in the San Michele district of Cupra Marittima, and it is precisely from those that, according to the investigations, the flames started. There are numerous precedents linked to the fires that have affected the two neighborhoods of Cupra, especially in the last five years, and it cannot be ruled out that the same person may have always been the one to act, who until now has unfortunately always managed to get away with it.
