Countdown to the filing of the lists for the European elections on 8 and 9 June. Tomorrow at 8pm the stoppage will be triggered in the courts of appeal of the five electoral constituencies (Milan for the north-west, Venice for the north-east, Rome for the centre, Naples for the south and Palermo for the islands). Forza Italia, together with Noi Moderates, independent mayors and civic movements, has already completed the process by presenting the blue lists for Strasbourg: the deputy prime minister and national secretary Antonio Tajani will be the head of the list in all the constituencies with the exception of the islands, where the candidates will be Caterina Chinnici. Also leading the list throughout Italy is the prime minister and leader of FdI, Giorgia Meloni, who dissolved her reserve on Sunday in Pescara by announcing her entry into the field. The Prime Minister, who today chaired the meeting of the Council of Ministers in the morning at Palazzo Chigi (while in the afternoon she had a meeting on the agenda with the general secretary of Ecr Antonio Giordano and the president of Cpac, the American Matt Schlapp), will close the electoral campaign with a big event in Rome on June 1st. And among the names included in the lists trimmed down to the last one in Via della Scrofa there will also be that of Vittorio Sgarbi who, after resigning as Undersecretary of Culture, aspires to a position as an MEP. “I spoke with all the party leaders and signed the acceptance of the candidacy – his words to LaPresse -, but I still don’t know in which constituency I will be a candidate”. However, there is no doubt regarding Roberto Vannacci. In fact, the Federal Council has given the green light to the League’s lists: the general will be the leader in two of the five electoral constituencies (in the Center and in the South). The head of the list in the north-west will be Silvia Sardone, in the islands it will be Annalista Tardino (with Vannacci still immediately behind), while in the north-east Paolo Borchia will lead the list.

Also new in the lists for the United States of Europe, the political and electoral project for the European elections launched by +Europa together with Italia Viva, PSI, Libdem and Radicali Italiani. “I have decided to double my commitment, running at the top of the list also in the central constituency, as well as at the top of the list in the North West”, announced Emma Bonino, revealing the decision made by Matteo Renzi who will run for the last place on the list in four constituencies out of five. “And unlike what others will do – underlines the former prime minister – if I am elected I will go to the European Parliament, to Strasbourg and Brussels”. As regards the Christian Democrats, you instead explain with a note “that you have not reached any agreement with the United States of Europe list”. A statement that comes as rumors are circulating about the possible candidacy of the former mayor of Agrigento Marco Zambuto, partner of the daughter of the leader of the DC Totò Cuffaro. Still on the opposition side, the Democratic Party fields secretary Elly Schlein (who, even if elected, will not move to Strasbourg), leader of the list in the Center and in the Islands. In the North West there will be Cecilia Strada followed by Brando Benifei, in the North East Stefano Bonaccini with Annalisa Corrado and in the South Lucia Annunziata followed by Antonio Decaro and Pina Picierno. With Schlein at the Center also Nicola Zingaretti, Dario Nardella, Matteo Ricci and the ex-director of Avvenire, Marco Tarquinio. As regards the leaders of the M5s, Maria Angela Danzì and Gaetano Pedullà will be those in the north-west, Sabrina Pignedoli and Ugo Biggeri in the north-east, Carolina Morace and Dario Tamburrano in the centre, Pasquale Tridico and Valentina Palmisano in the south, Giuseppe Antoci and Cinzia Pilo in the islands. For Avs there will be Ilaria Salis and Ignazio Marino in the north-west, Cristina Guarda and Mimmo Lucano in the north-east, Ignazio Marino and Marilena Grassadonia in the centre; Mimmo Lucano and Rosa D’Amato in the south, Leoluca Orlando and Ilaria Salis in the islands.

Everything is ok also for Michele Santoro who announces via social media that he has reached the number of signatures necessary to present his list to the European elections: “Tomorrow, May 1st, Labor Day, we will deliver the Peace Earth Dignity list in all the constituencies, signed by almost 100 thousand names”. The request was rejected by the executive, immediately contested by Cateno De Luca’s South calls North, put forward by the coordinator of Sovereign and Popular Democracy, Marco Rizzo, to reduce the subscriptions necessary for the presentation of the lists. “There was a willingness on the part of the government to meet the request made which in any case appears reasonable – explain sources from Palazzo Chigi -. This was done in a collaborative spirit to encourage participation in the electoral competition and with the expectation that the request would be was shared across the board by all political forces without generating controversy. In the face of firm opposition from other minor political groups and, moreover, with accusations from many quarters that the government wanted to pass a measure for some abstruse ulterior motive, the executive has deemed appropriate not to accept the request”.
