Performer Sara Morante at La Dama di Capestrano for the celebration of the centenary of the death of actress Eleonora Duse – Radio L’Aquila 1

CAPESTRANO – Next April 21st will be the centenary of the death of one of the greatest theater actresses: Eleonora Duse.

On the occasion of this date – included in the UNESCO ’24/’25 anniversary list – the Lady of Capestrano celebrates Duse by hosting the interpreter Sara Morante – born in L’Aquila but living in Berlin by adoption – in the Multidisciplinary Art Space of Via Aquila in Capestrano, in the province of L’Aquila.

Eleonora Duse is considered the greatest theater actress of her era and of all time, also considered an undisputed symbol of modern theatre. Her refined, innovative and ingenious acting marked a revolutionary turning point in the art and is considered the first modern acting. Born in Vigevano in 1858, she died in Pittsburgh on April 21, 1924. With her tours, Duse fascinated audiences and theater critics in Europe, North and South America, despite acting exclusively in Italian .

For more than a century the figure of Eleonora Duse has continued to inspire generations of artists of every path, beyond every geographical border: it is the fascinating and persistent power of what Hugo von Hofmannstahl defined as “the mystery of her unrepeatable art ”.

Two dates in Capestrano which will see the interpreter Sara Morante in “Eleonora Duse – Frammenti”, an interior monologue written and directed by herself – Saturday 20th at 7pm and Sunday 21st at 5pm.

Morante approached acting following the 2009 L’Aquila earthquake, training under the guidance of Cathy Haase of the Actors Studio of New York and of Mike Bernardin in Berlin. She contributed to the work of the students of the DffB directing school in Berlin and for several years she has dedicated herself to research and study the figure of Eleonora Duse, which gave rise to works that she interpreted at the University of Palermo and for the Lycée International de St. Germain-en-Laye in Paris. You collaborated with Prof. Anna Sica on her publication of D’amore e d’arte. The letters to Eleonora Duse by Aleksandr Volkov, Mimesis 2021, editing the correspondence.
