Clement Lenglet, defender of Aston Villa and member of the French national team (with whom he made 15 appearances) gave an interview to Sky Sport in which he also revealed that in recent years he had the opportunity to come and play in Serie A: From When I was little I wanted to be a physiotherapist. Becoming a footballer isn’t easy, so you need to have some alternatives if things go wrong… In my first professional match I broke my nose. Ten minutes of play had passed, I remember that I slipped and one of my teammates jumped on my face. I went to hospital, it was terrible… I thought I would never have a chance, today the episode is funny but then it wasn’t at all.”
Lenglet focuses on the figure of Antonio Conte, who he had as coach during his loan at Tottenham: “Fantastic, I improved a lot with him. Sometimes he’s a bit harsh but he’s a strong coach: it was what I needed to improve. In the training sessions he made us do in preparation I suffered a lot. After that period, however, it seemed to fly on the pitch and I was at the top all season.
Last January he could move to Milan: “I wasn’t playing consistently and so I wanted to find a solution. My priority was to play and at that moment it wasn’t possible, so there were contacts with other clubs. Then I started playing and the plans changed. But Serie A is a championship that I like.”
Conclusion on his two compatriots who are protagonists in Inter: “Thuram has had an exceptional season, he’s a different type of player than before. Pavard is also playing very well: leaving Bayern isn’t easy but he made the right choice.”
