The Messina challenges the league leaders Juventus Stabia, now one step away from promotion to Serie B, having to deal with an unfavorable tradition in direct matches played in Campania. In the thirteen previous championship matches the record is eight victories for the hosts, two draws and three successes for the guests, all very distant in time.

Corona scores against Juve Stabia

The first meeting dates back to the 1929-30 season when, in the then I. Division, Juve Stabia prevailed 1-0. In 1931-32, however, the Peloritani won 0-2 (goals from Re and Ferretti I). Result also replicated in the 1948-49 Serie C tournament. The visitors’ scores led to the signatures in the 27th minute Oldsword And Bertolin at 70′. Draw (1-1) in 1949-50 with a back and forth between Fabbri (M) and Gelardi. At the end of that championship Messina achieved promotion among the cadets after the play-offs with Cosenza. In 1951-52, in B, a new blitz by the Giallorossi, who went through 1-2 in the final round of the tournament. At 10′ Marra for the Stabiesi, then at 15′ Bertolin and at 49′ Moro turned the tide of the match. And this is precisely the last victory achieved in Castellammare in the championship (excluding the 2-3 Italian Cup blitz in August 2021).

In 1972-73 the narrow victory (1-0) of the hosts thanks to the center of Malaman at 57′. A bitter season for Messina, which ended with relegation to D. In 1979-80, in C2, a clean 2-0 win for the “vespas”, scoring in the 14th minute with Crusco and in the 41st minute with Graziani. In 1980-81 a resounding 4-1 in favor of the Campania team: 15′ Iancarelli, 42′ Mannarelli, 44′ Napoli on a penalty (M), 61′ Piccinetti, 69′ Mannarelli. A result which, however, was not enough for Juve Stabia to avoid being downgraded. The Giallorossi team, however, saved themselves by just one point, placing fourth from last, just ahead of the Campania team. An epilogue resulting from simultaneous draws for Messina in Brindisi (1-1) and Juve Stabia in Martina Franca (0-0) on the last day of C2.

In Lega Pro, in 2014-15, 1-1 and one point for each side. George Crown, in the guise of a great ex, for the guest’s lead already in the 4th minute. It was the yellow-blues who made up for it Caserta, directly from a free kick in the 75th minute, Messina with ten men due to Benvenga’s expulsion, but capable of keeping the draw until the end. In 2015-16, with salvation already in the safe, Messina was beaten 2-1 at the “Menti”, coming back from a comeback after a goal by Unhinge at 7′. The “wasps” took advantage of two penalty kicks converted by Favasuli between 73′ and 77′ to take the entire stake.

In 2016-17 another photocopy defeat, again 2-1. From Pozzebon in the 24th minute the goal of the illusory advantage of Sasà Marra’s team, first caught up and then overtaken by goals from Marotta in the 52nd minute and Atanasov in the 76th minute. On 24 October 2021, in Serie C, the goal of Tow at 61′. Another setback, much more serious, on December 11, 2022, in the last championship. Dry 3-0, with Maggioni (11′), Silipo (32′) and Ricci (37′) protagonists and the contest closed already in the first half. Too many errors from a Messina that was turned off and overwhelmed by its opponents. Trasciani’s crossbar at the start of the second half.
