Last shift on the fire truck for the detachment leader Legnano Fire Brigade Mario Merenda who is about to take off his helmet to enjoy his well-deserved rest. The leader of the Legnano corps, in fact, will officially retire Wednesday 1 May. And today, Saturday 27 April, he carried out his last operational service and he did it in shift D: the team he was part of before becoming detachment leader.

At 8.30pm, therefore at the end of the shift, Merenda was officially greeted by his men. A moment felt by the large family of via Leopardi. Hired the first one August 1990 in the national body, at the central fire prevention schools of Capannelle Rome (training of staff lasting 4 months) he immediately landed at the provincial command of Milan (December 1, 1990). Appointed team leader in 2009, for a short period in 2020 he shared the role of detachment leader with Autovino. And he then led the four teams on via Leopardi alone.

Merenda discovered this profession almost by chance after the age of 18, through the military draft. For 22 years, Merenda he worked together with the unforgettable detachment chief Cosimo Raimondi in shift D. In fact, there are several thoughts shared with Raimondi, including openness towards the community and the local law enforcement bodies. An important legacy left to the Legnano detachment.
