The Cabb agrochemical company, owner of the plant in Schweizerhalle, in the Pratteln area (BL), where a chemical leak occurred on Friday evening, deplores the incident and explains that it is convinced that it has adequate risk control . In the recent past the company has had to deal with various accidents.
The director of the plant Uwe Müller, quoted in a note issued today by the company states: «We have a complete safety and operations management system that comes into operation immediately in the event of an accident. It was like that in this case too.”
Then he adds: «It’s a fact: in chemical production we work with substances and products of different danger classes. We are always aware of these dangers and keep them under control.”
However, Cabb has been the scene of repeated accidents in recent years. In May 2021, six people were injured following a chemical spill, and in 2014 a breakdown caused one death.
Following repeated incidents, the director and a senior manager of the plant left the company in 2016. Despite renewed safety checks decided then, the incidents continued.
In 2022, Cabb, which has a workforce of around 1,200 employees, achieved a turnover of more than 755 million euros (738 million francs at current exchange rates).
