Earthquake shock in Friuli, damage assessment underway

Civil protection at work to assess any damage after last night’s earthquake.

“This morning we brought together the crisis unit with the mayors of the municipalities most affected by the seismic swarm recorded last night. We already have verified that there were no injuries. However, it is still ongoing assessment of damage to structures and infrastructure. At the moment we have not detected any important situations.” This was stated by the regional councilor for Civil Protection Riccardo Riccardi.

Several aftershocks during the night

“A team of Civil Protection technicians is carrying out a careful and timely reconnaissance of the territories affected by the earthquake. If necessary – underlines Riccardi – we will meet in the afternoon to understand what interventions could be carried out urgently”.

“The mayors, in confirming that it was an event that aroused great concern and fear among citizens, expressed gratitude – concludes the councilor – for the closeness immediately shown by the Region”.

According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv) the earthquake which occurred yesterday at 10.19pm had a magnitude of 4.7, the hypocenter was 10 kilometers deep and the epicenter was 5 kilometers from the municipalities of Socchieve (Udine) and of Tramonti di Sopra (Pordenone).
