Vittoria city councilor Giuseppe Cannizzo has died. A family doctor, he retired last February, upon turning 70. He had been hospitalized for two weeks at the Cannizzaro hospital in Catania.

Giuseppe Cannizzo was the victim of a domestic accident on April 12th. He had fallen while climbing a tree, with the help of a ladder, apparently to pick lemons. Immediately rescued he was transported to the hospital in Vittoria and immediately transferred to Cannizzaro, where he was in the intensive care unit. The situation always remained stable and very difficult, then his condition worsened. Now his heart has stopped beating. The family authorized the removal of the organs. Last night the news of his death circulated, corroborated by institutional sources. The death, however, occurred yesterday. The body will probably arrive on Monday.

Giuseppe Cannizzo was elected in October 2021 on the “Aiello mayor” civic list. Shortly afterwards he declared himself independent and had recently joined the “Territorio” political movement together with the city councilor Giovanna Biondo, always remaining firmly in the majority that supports the current mayor Francesco Aiello. Even in previous legislatures he had been elected to the city council, always close to the positions of the current mayor.

Giuseppe Cannizzo was very well known in the city. An esteemed professional, he had the affection of many.

In his place, in the city council, Giannella Iabichella will take over, first of the non-elected in the “Aiello mayor” list, who works in the restaurant sector. The subrogation should take place in the first useful session of the city council.
