Golden sphinx also goes to Claudio Golinelli. The cast of the loyalty to sport award scheduled at the Hotel Country Club in Gragnano on Monday 3 June is enriched with another prestigious name. The former cyclist from Piacenza is the latest Italian winner of two world track titles: in speed and Keirin.

It was 1989, when wearing the colors of Polli Mobiexport Fanini scored the fantastic double, remaining in history among the strongest pistards of all time. In 1988 he won his first world title in the keirin when he raced for Pepsi Cola Fanini. At the world championships he also boasts three silver medals (2 in keirin and one in speed) and two bronze medals (1 in keirin and one in speed). In his career he also won 10 national titles (5 in Keirin and 5 in sprint). Titles and medals that are a source of pride for Ivano Faninithe sports manager who launched it and for the municipality of Capannori, since Golinelli is the most victorious athlete of all the Capannori and Lucca teams of all time.

In addition to his successes on the track, he also boasts five victories in road races. On 25 August 1987 in Vienna he set the professional world record for the 200 meters indoor throw, with a time of 10″ 587. This record was then lowered less than two years later by the Australian Stephen Pate.

A stellar cast

The honorary members of the 25th loyalty to sport award have therefore secured these participations to date: Vincenzo Nibali and Claudio Golinelli for cycling, Franco Causio and Ivano Bordon for football, Rebecca Tarlazzi 16-time world figure skating champion in wheels and Simona Rinieri, one of the strongest volleyball spikers of all time. However, the list is not yet closed and other big names are expected.

It still remains to be established who will be awarded the collateral prizes in memory of Aldo Biagini, Gigi Simoni and Alfio Castiglioni. It is the year of the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini, which is why Count Guido Anzilotti returns among the guests. In the villa Castellaccio in Uzzano owned by him, the famous musician composed La Bohème, one of the most successful operas.

The municipal administration of Capannori has confirmed its participation also in this edition of the mayor Luca Menesini and the councilors Lucia Micheli and Serena Frediani.
