The event concluded with the oath of the students and athletes.

The speech of Minister Piantedosi

«Dear Students and Athletes, I am sincerely pleased to take part in such a significant moment in your life and professional career.
Today’s oath seals, at the conclusion of a long and demanding period of study and application made of personal and family sacrifices, your entry into the National Fire Brigade, an institution that undoubtedly constitutes an excellence of the country.
This solemn ceremony is held, as usual, in an absolutely fascinating setting, the Central Fire Schools, a place that all the firefighters look at with affection and emotion.
It is here that your initial training is ensured, which helps to create that attachment to the profession and the values that it expresses, not only on the level of technical ability and knowledge, but also on the human level. It is here, as at the Higher Fire Prevention Institute, that the Corps cultivates the exchange of knowledge and professional enrichment also through the involvement of prestigious external institutions in the teaching activity.
It is also thanks to these profitable and deep-rooted forms of collaboration that the Corps ensures a very high quality training offer on all the topics of greatest interest: from fire prevention to emergency management and urgent technical rescue, without neglecting civil defence.
The delicacy and specificity of the functions of the Corps, as well as the continuous and rapid cultural and technological evolutions that characterize our society, mean that firefighters are called to constant updating throughout the entire span of their working experience.
The training moment, an essential element in the path of each of us, takes on – as I often like to remember – an even more fundamental value for the firefighters, who are often called upon to deal with contexts characterized by particularly critical scenarios.
The ability to innovate, while remaining in the wake of a consolidated tradition, is the distinctive feature of the National Corps, which has always been at the service of the country and the community and which, not surprisingly, receives feelings of unanimous esteem and appreciation everywhere.
I also want to highlight that the Fire Brigade have, among other things, convincingly chosen to promote a series of initiatives aimed at investing, with a view to environmental sustainability and the protection of future generations, in the growing use of renewable energy.
I am referring both to the project resulting from the implementation of the PNRR, for the green renewal of its vehicle fleet, and to the establishment of the Central Safety Committee at the Department of Fire Brigade, Public Rescue and Civil Defense technical body for the energy transition and for the management of risks related to climate change, a technical body which has been entrusted with important proactive and consultative functions on the matter.
We must, however, keep in mind that technological adaptation is always and only a means, albeit indispensable, to make the rescue action more efficient, in whatever field it occurs.
Because, in the end, the operator’s sense of humanity is the true and fundamental lever capable of making the difference in any dangerous situation. Beyond their undisputed technical ability, firefighters are loved precisely for their peculiar human qualities which ensure that, as I have underlined on several occasions, they are created in every operational context, whether connected to everyday life or to real scenarios. emergency services, a strong and sincere bond with people.
Courage, the ability to dominate tension, dedication, altruism and solidarity are the hallmarks of the members of the National Corps.
I am sure that, thanks to your instructors and the example of the more expert staff, during the training period that has just ended you have had the opportunity, in addition to refining your knowledge and developing new skills, to make your own the value system that characterizes the Body.
The National Corps is already a cutting-edge reality and constitutes, not surprisingly, the backbone of the complex national civil protection system. This does not mean, however, that any further innovative initiative should not be implemented to increase and make its overall response capacity even more efficient.
We are required to make this effort to correspond to the growing demand for proximity coming from the territories.
During this legislature, tangible and important results have been achieved in this direction in terms of strengthening the human resources and instrumental equipment of the National Corps. We intend to continue along this path, in the awareness that the Fire Brigade constitutes an essential safety device for the community.
Within this framework, your inclusion in the role, in significant numbers – there are over 500 of you – will constitute a further important step that will immediately allow for a significant strengthening of public emergency services on the national territory.
I assure you that I will do everything in my power to give renewed impetus to the process of valorising the specificity of the Corps, also due to the personal feelings of sincere esteem that I have developed over the course of my professional life towards the Fire Brigade.
Dear Students and Athletes, I thank you for choosing to put your skills at the service of the community and the common good.
With these feelings of gratitude I wish you all a future full of satisfactions, in the certainty that in your daily actions you will be able to take advantage of what you have learned in this formative period and that you will contribute, thanks to the passion that led you here, to giving further prestige to the National Fire Brigade”.
