The first evening of the event took place at the “Attilio Pavesi” Velodrome in Fiorenzuola 27th edition of the 6 Days of the International Roses, great event which until Thursday 4 July will see 12 grand prix of various disciplines compete on the track, which will award valuable points for the UCI ranking, with around 150 athletes from 25 different countries.
MALE SCRATCH GRAND PRIX GM TERMOSANITARI
The first final of the evening (after the late afternoon qualifiers) was the scratch race, a race valid for the Gran Premio GM Termosanitari. Australian Liam Walsh wins ahead of Matteo Donegà and Lev Gonov. A test decided by a five-man attack in the final, then three remained to play for the final success. The former Piacenza champion (winner of the 6 Giorni delle Rose 2004) Samuele Marzoli awarded the first three.
WOMEN’S POINTS RACE BUSSANDRI AUTOMOBILI GRAND PRIX
There was also a show in the women’s points race, the Gran Premio Bussandri Automobili, with a close challenge until the last sprint: success of the blue Martina Alzini with 25 points (second in the last sprint), ahead of Lee Sze Wing (Hong Kong) with 22 points. Third was Silvia Zanardi from Piacenza, who reached 19 points. Mexican Victoria Velasco fell off the podium with 15 points. The three medalists were awarded by Cristian, Federica and Riccardo Bussandri
MALE ELIMINATION GRAND PRIX INOX 80
The first evening was closed by the Gp Inox 80, the men’s elimination race, very hard fought with 24 athletes on the track. The winner was the Swiss Nicolò De Lisi, who won the last sprint against the Australian Graeme Frislie. Bronze medal for Mattia Pinazzi. The riders were rewarded on the podium by Fausto Bettuzzi.
