Czech cyclist Jan Hirt of Soudal – Quick Step had a dramatic start to the 2024 Tour de France. During preparations for today’s first stage, Hirt took a nasty fall after getting caught in a fan’s bag.

According to initial reports, the 32-year-old from Olomouc was carrying out final checks on his bicycle when, in a moment of distraction, his front wheel got caught in a bag left on the course by a fan. This sudden accident made Hirt lose control, who ended up violently on the ground.

The images, unfortunately not available, show the Soudal-Quick Step rider with a bloody nose and at least one broken tooth. Despite the bad fall, the team’s medical staff is evaluating the possibility of letting him start regularly for the first stage.

“It was really very bad luck for Jan. He was making his final preparations when he ran into this unfortunate circumstance,” said his team’s sports director. “Our doctors are examining him carefully to see if there are any more serious injuries. His participation in today’s stage is currently in doubt, but we will do everything to allow him to start if possible.”

A bad misadventure that risks compromising the start of the race for the young Czech talent, expected protagonist in this edition of the Tour de France. We will carefully follow the developments of his condition in the next few hours.
