“Born in York on 15 January 1998, he trained in the youth sectors of York City and Middlesbrough.”

Benjamin Godfrey is a new Atalanta player. After arriving today, undergoing medical tests and signing the contract, the defender from Everton has been announced as the first reinforcement for next season. This is the note from the Goddess: “After Charles De Ketelaere, Atalanta BC announces that it has finalized another permanent acquisition, securing from Everton FC the right to the sports performances of the player Benjamin Matthew Godfrey, a 26-year-old right-footed central defender who grew up playing football in his native country, namely England, where – after a constant rise that led him to climb all the professional categories (12 appearances in League Two, 40 in League One and 36 in the Championship) – he has played 112 games in the Premier League.

Born in York on 15 January 1998, he trained in the youth sectors of York City and Middlesbrough. With the team of his hometown he made his professional debut at just 17 years old in the 2015-2016 season, collecting 12 appearances and 1 goal in League Two, the English fourth division. In the following season he moved to Norwich City, in the Championship, scoring a goal – his second among professionals – in the victorious EFL Cup match against Coventry City.

After a year on loan in League One, the English third division, in which he played 40 league games (scoring one goal) plus another 3 in the playoffs with Shrewsbury Town, in the summer of 2018 he returned as a protagonist to Norwich City, where he remained for two years for a total of 69 appearances in all competitions. At the end of the first season he celebrated the promotion of the Canaries to the Premier League, in the second season, however, he competed in the English top division for the first time in his career, making a total of 30 appearances.

On 5 October 2020 he signed a five-year contract with Everton. With the Toffies he played four Premier League championships, making 93 appearances in all competitions.

After 2 matches for the Under 20s and 9 (with 1 goal) for the Under 21s, on 2 June 2021 he made his debut for the English senior national team in the victorious friendly (1-0) against Austria.

The Percassi family, the Pagliuca family and the entire Club extend a warm welcome to Benjamin Godfrey, wishing him the best satisfactions – personal and team – in the black and blue shirt”.
