Practical guide to Red Bull Cerro Abajo Genoa

The Red Bull Cerro Abajo it is unquestionably the most spectacular and extreme urban downhill racing circuit in the world: a twenty-year journey that has seen all the best riders compete in a test capable of bringing out the best of their talent, including incredible jumps and acrobatics.

The 2024 edition will go down in history for an absolute novelty: from 18 to 20 October, for the first time, a stage of Cerro Abajo will take place far from South America and Italy will have the honor of this baptism outside of Latin American continent.

The chosen city is Genoa and it couldn’t be otherwise. In fact, the Ligurian capital has a conformation that lends itself perfectly to hosting the Red Bull Cerro Abajo track, thanks to its characteristic alleys that connect the mountains to the sea, as well as being the European Capital of Sport for 2024.

There is also a common thread that has always linked ‘La Superba’ to Red Bull Cerro Abajo, in particular to the Chilean city of Valparaìso, cradle of competition. Valparaíso is in fact known as the Genoa of the Pacific for the similarity in urban architecture and for the many Genoese who moved there, in the last century, to seek their fortune.

An event not to be missed for lovers of this specialty, who will see the 30 best riders in the world launching themselves at high speed through the typical alleys of Genoa, looking for the best time at the end of the 2 km of the route.

Among the participants of the Italian stage there will be Tomáš Slavík, veteran of the competition and three-time winner in Valparaìso. The Czech rider has already had the opportunity to visit Genoa and is the protagonist of a spectacular and poetic video in which, to the tune of Antonio Vivaldi and with the poignant beauty of Genoa as a backdrop, he offers breathtaking descents and an eloquent preview of what will happen in October.

“From the first time I was in Genoa, especially in the highest part of the route, I felt like I was in Valparaìso: the gradients and the width of the streets are very similar. The goal for all of us will be to win: usually, I’m used to competing in South America against local athletes. This time we will be in Europe and it will feel like I am playing at home, let’s see how the South American riders fare” comments Slavík.

The most precious pearl of Liguria is ready to welcome the first and historic Red Bull Cerro Abajo outside of South America, guaranteeing a weekend of entertainment and adrenaline, where two wheels will reign supreme. An opportunity not to be missed for all Italian fans to enjoy the event live or, as happens for the more distant stages, on Red Bull TV.
