Immediate redemption for an extraordinary one Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek) who, two days after the mockery in the time trial race, won for the fifth time the Italian cycling championship female in the test on line.
The champion of Ornavasso, 32 years old, she imposed herself with one solitary breakaway at the finish line in Scarperia detaching of 13″ the small group of the closest pursuers. Chiara from Lombardy took the lead in the sprint for second place Consonni (competing with the Fiamme Azzurre shirt) ahead of another Piedmontese, Eleonora Gasparrini (UAE Adq), the best among the under 23s.
Longo Borghini placed the winning action about 25 kilometers from the finish line (the departure took place in Ponte a Ema, Gino Bartali’s birthplace): after a forcing implemented by her teammates, the athlete from Ossola took off with the only Gasparrini was able to respond for a while. Then the 32-year-old remained on the run alone and earned a good margin managed until the finish line where he lost a few seconds, irrelevant for the result.
