Sainz asphalt Drive to Survive with an excellent comparison

Drive to Survive doesn’t have a good reputation among Formula 1 fans, and the drivers aren’t any different either: here’s what Carlos Sainz thinks.

Carlos Sainz he’s just one of many Formula 1 drivers who don’t like the way Drive to Survive distorts reality. In Formula 1 there are rivalries and battles on the track, yet Netflix has made them real power struggles, between good and bad drivers, as if it were a Hollywood blockbuster.

On the Nude Projects podcast, where he retraced his life and career, Ferrari’s #55 shared his opinion on the docuseries: “Netflix created these battles. There are, but they exaggerate.”

When the two hosts asked him if by any chance he had talked about it with the other pilots, Sainz discussed his relationship with Lando Norris. And speaking of the way it was rendered on screen:

“We are colleagues who get along very well. We are rivals and colleagues. In season four they did this episode where we kind of look like arch enemies.” Highlighting how they exaggerated many things, the Madrid native pulled out a excellent comparison:

“I am trying to say, It seems like we have to kill each other! We were teammates and it seemed that Lando Norris was the young driver who had come to oust Carlos Sainz because they hated each other’s guts. Totally Hollywood.”

He and the former McLaren then spoke, as he explained on the podcast: “We saw the episode and felt the same way. We laughed like crazy. Even a true fan who has followed Formula 1 for a long time, who knows the ins and outs, and how this sport works, will have had a good laugh.”

Sainz is convinced that the producers of Netflix “they knew they had to take one phrase from there and another from this other place and create a rivalry.”
