Emmanuel Wanyonyi thundered a sensational time in the 800 meters on the occasion of the admission trials for the Paris 2024 Olympics, held in Nairobi. The Kenyan champion in fact ran the double lap of the track in one an overwhelming 1:41.70, thus becoming the third fastest man in historybehind his compatriot David Rudisha (1:40.91 world record set at the London 2012 Olympics) and the Dane Wilson Kipketer (1:41.11 in 1997).
The one signed in the capital is the ninth time in history (of the previous eight, six bear the signature of Rudisha and two that of Kipketer), preceding by three hundredths the historic European record held by the British Sebastian Coe (current president of World Athletics) on 10 June 1981 in Florence. The amazing 19 year old (he will blow out the candles on August 1st) got the better of Wyclife Kinyamal (1:42.50) and Koitatori Kidali (1:42.66).
The class of 2004 naturally signed the best seasonal world performance and is applying for a role absolute protagonist at the Olympics of Paris 2024. Wanyonyi is a true champion: last year he won the silver medal over this distance at the World Championships in Budapest, after fourth place the previous season in Eugene, he holds the diamond of the Diamond League and was world champion among the under 20 in 2021.
