new witnesses in the prosecutor’s office from Monday, Lavarello begins

(ANSA) – GENOA, JUNE 15 – The hearings of witnesses will begin again on Monday in the corruption investigation which has led the president of the Liguria Region, Giovanni Toti, to house arrest since 7 May. The first to be heard by prosecutors Federico Manotti and Luca Monteverde will be the lawyer Alfonso Lavarello, then there will be managers and officials of the Liguria Region and it is not excluded that the general secretary of the regional council Pietro Paolo Giampellegrini could also be there. Lavarello is a key figure in the story of the 30-year renewal of the concession of the Bulk Terminal to Aldo Spinelli (also under house arrest). The lawyer, in fact, had managed to reach an agreement between Spinelli and the shipowner Gianluigi Aponte (not under investigation), after months of arguments, threats of complaints to the prosecutor’s office and letters from lawyers. According to what emerged from the documents, the two entrepreneurs reached an agreement on the division of the Bulk Terminal. So much so that Toti in an interception with the then president of the port authority Paolo Emilio Signorini (the only one in prison) commented: “This is a great thing, when I return we’ll offer him a dinner, even if I think he can easily afford it…”.
