Red alert for Jack Miller: could MotoGP be at risk? The Australian’s real options to continue racing at the highest level

The worst possible scenario for Jack Miller and his continuity in MotoGP was “confirmed” today, with the announcement that Maverick Viñales will join GASGAS Tech3 in 2025. If the scenario wasn’t already the most favorable, given Pedro’s move Alongside the official KTM team, the truth is that the Australian could now have one foot out of MotoGP… or is this really the case? Miller is in his second year with KTM, a return in 2023 after five years with Ducati in the colors of Pramac Racing, but he knows his future will not be with either of these teams and a return to Desmosedici via a team is unlikely satellite of Ducati, but recent rumors could indicate… another return to a familiar house: Honda. It should be remembered that the Australian made his MotoGP debut in 2015 with LCR Honda – and then for two years with Marc VDS – and a return to riding the Japanese bike is one of the (few) possibilities on the table. Some rumors had already indicated this possibility which, it seems, could gain momentum as only two Honda riders are contractually secure: Luca Marini (factory team, Repsol Honda) and Johann Zarco (satellite, LCR Honda). Takaaki Nakagami is in the last year of his contract and Lucio Cecchinello left the door open to the Japanese rider, apologizing for the bad results of the team due to the lack of competitiveness of the bike, but even before this the Japanese rider was not the most virtuous , so he could leave and leave a free seat for a driver with a lot of experience in the category and with experience in other more competitive manufacturers in recent years, which could serve as a flag for his acquisition.

Those same arguments work in Miller’s favor when looking at the factory team. Joan Mir is in the last year of his contract and has already had several talks about the bike, partly stating that he is very dissatisfied, which is understandable, but at the same time recently showing some hope for what the future might bring.

What is certain is that Honda is one of the real possibilities for Miller, who at the beginning of the year was highlighted by Francesco Guidotti, who said that the number 43 is in a decisive year for his career and that he must (really) show results and be more competitive, given that his future in KTM was on the line and without forgetting that he is still a rider with too much quality to not race at the top level.

There had also been talk of the possibility, even in 2023, that Miller could be a test rider for KTM and participate in many races as a wild card, as well as a substantial increase in his salary, but this scenario is now unknown.

There are still several holidays in MotoGP, as Yamaha has Álex Rins expiring contract, Gresini Racing has Álex Márquez leaving and a free seat after the departure of Marc Márquez, Franco Morbidelli (Pramac Racing) is also in his last year, as well as the duo of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team (Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi), without forgetting Aprilia Racing and Trackhouse Racing (Miguel Oliveira and Raúl Fernández).

With the game of chairs underway, Miller will have to play his cards well, also because there are Moto2 riders looking for a place in MotoGP, particularly at LCR Honda, like Ai Ogura.
