“Tachycardia before the start, after one lap I hyperventilated”

I want to reassure everyone, I’m fine.” This is how the post opens Ludovica Cavalli on his social profiles after the big scare last night at the Olympic Stadium in Rome on the occasion of the 1500 meters final at the 2024 European Athletics Championships. The Ligurian middle-distance runner then explained the physical discomfort she experienced during and especially after the race, when she collapsed at the finish line, putting her hand to her chest and struggling to breathe.

“During the sprint to the start, my heart went into tachycardia and I wasn’t able to slow down before leaving. After one lap I hyperventilated and couldn’t handle the situation anymore. We will do all the necessary investigations to understand what happened. I was liking Rome so much but sometimes things don’t work out and you can only accept what happens. I am very sorry“, says the 23 year old blue.

A nightmarish evening therefore for the world finalist of Budapest 2023, who had qualified for the last act with a good performance in heat during the first day of the Roman European Championships. Cavalli, already capable of achieving the Olympic minimum, will now have just over a month and a half to recover and try to present himself in good condition at the Paris 2024 Games.
