Tour de France 2024, Cofidis announces the first five riders at the start

The first official announcements arrive at home Cofidis in view of the Tour de France 2024. The French team published on its account X the names of the first five runners who will take part in the Grande Boucle which will start on June 29th. After the two victories of the last edition obtained thanks to Victor Lafay and Ion Izagirre, Cedric Vasseur’s team is also aiming to obtain at least one stage success this year, leaving then to the captain Giullaume Martin the task of ranking, with the hope of repeating the two top 10s obtained in 2021 and 2023.”The Tour is the most beautiful race in the world – comments the French climber in his team’s announcement video – as always I am super motivated”.

He will be there alongside him in the mountain stages Ion Izagirre, winner last year in Belleville-en-Beaujolais and who will try to repeat the exploit this year too if the stages allow it and if he doesn’t have to support his captain in the fight for the general classification. For the sprints, however, the transalpine team relies on Bryan Coquardin his seventh participation in the French GT and which will focus on both the group sprints and, above all, the tighter sprints in the busier stages, such as the second stage with arrival in Bologna.

To conclude this first part of the selection there are then Alexis Renard And Simon Geschke. Both riders will have a supporting role to bring the captains into the best positions during the crucial moments of the stages, but the German will also have carte blanche, probably in the third week, to try to fit into some breakaways as he already did at the recent Giro of Italy. To find out who the last three riders who will complete the Cofidis roster will be, we will have to wait until June 24th, after the national championships.
