Reggio Emilia «The events begin on Saturday 6th July summer sales. An excellent opportunity for consumers to save money, as they can purchase products they have been eyeing for a long time at a lower price. But the important thing is maintain a critical and aware approachwithout getting carried away by enthusiasm. The risk of fraud is always around the corner, for this reason we must carefully evaluate the real convenience of each purchase”. This is stated by Martina Donini, national president of Udicon (Union for the defense of consumers).

Udicon has drawn up a list of simple rules to follow to make the most of the summer sales:

1. The receipt is your best ally, always remember to keep it. This document is essential not only for any changes, but also as proof of purchase in case of disputes. Even during sales, you have the right to change the products purchased, but the receipt will always be your guarantee.
2. Quality and seasonality of products. Items sold during sales should be seasonal or trendy items. Pay attention to the quality and novelty of the products you are buying. A good deal is not a good deal if the item is out of season or of poor quality.
3. Exchange and return policies. Although the exchange and return policy is generally at the discretion of the retailer, there are protections for you as a consumer. In the case of defective products, you are entitled to repair, replacement or a refund of the amount spent. Do not hesitate to assert your rights in these situations.
4. Trying on items: a matter of courtesy. Trying on items is not an obligation for the retailer, but an opportunity often granted out of courtesy. If you are denied the opportunity to try on an item, carefully consider the purchase. If in doubt, ask for detailed information on the retailer’s policy.
5. Electronic payments are a consumer right. Shops are required to accept credit card payments without additional costs. This is your right, so don’t hesitate to use your preferred payment method.
6. Price transparency. Retailers are required to clearly indicate the original price, the discount applied and the final price. Check the starting price if you have any doubts about the discount applied, paying attention to the tag with the sticker placed above it. This transparency allows you to actually evaluate the convenience of the purchase. Pay attention to these indications to avoid unpleasant surprises at the checkout.
