Non Saturday at Mugello, Franco Morbidelli gave an excellent performance to the home crowd and crossed the finish line fourth. In interviews the Italian-Brazilian does not hide his satisfaction, but comments: “There is still a lot to work on”.
On fourth place in the Sprint…
“It was important to finish the race, as it will be tomorrow and today I responded to the temptation of the podium with a little more intelligence than in Barcelona, bringing home an important result for me and for the team. Let’s see how we are tomorrow , if I can get a better start and we’re up front, let’s see what I feel like doing”
Does it give you confidence?
“We are aware that our level is very high, we can see it both from the speed in testing and from the improvements we have made since the beginning of the year, when I didn’t know the bike at all. But seeing it in black and white is different”
This morning you had the track record for 10 minutes…
“Yes, today was a great day for that too, because I did ’44 at Mugello, which is an incredible time. By 10 minutes it was also the fastest lap in the history of Mugello. We are quite close, this is a moment important to be solid. We are looking for solidity, even if this speed is already very good”
On Monday’s test…
“Monday’s test will be even more important to understand the bike better and bond better”
Is it the best day with Ducati?
“Every day is the best day with Ducati, from when I started my stint until now. There have been a lot of good days, difficult ones will also come but we started off really well”
What are the problems at the start?
“Today after the wheelie the lowering device in front of me came off and I lost a lot of speed. The problem is still my lack of knowledge of the bike, I make some mistakes in the starting procedure and this causes me to lose quite a bit, unfortunately”
Do you think about where you might be if there hadn’t been the accident at the beginning of the year?
“Things are like this now: it was nice to try to do everything quickly, we recovered a great deal of knowledge quite quickly thanks to the team and the whole team who explained to me well how to best manage this bike. From here on We only think about getting good results and having fun: the championship is none of our business after this winter’s injury.”
What grade do you give yourself after today?
“I give it seven! There’s still room to win, the team and the bike I give it 10”
Do you think the tires you will use tomorrow in the race will be the same as today?
“We have to see: the front one I think so, I think it will be a Medium. There are doubts about the back”
