MotoGP Mugello – Acosta: “New Ducati rider? A soap opera”

It is a Pedro Acosta who is quite amused by the numerous market rumors that are chasing each other this weekend in the Mugello paddock who presents himself to the microphones at the end of the Sprint of the Italian Grand Prix, where the #31, freshly signed for 2025 with KTM Factory, finished in 3rd place riding its GasGas.

Shot from the seventh box, Pedro Acosta repeats the podium in the Barcelona Sprint last weekend, taking 3rd place (behind Bagnaia, 1st, and Marquez, 2nd) also in the 2024 Italian Grand Prix on the Mugello circuit and does so with the usual courageous race and peppered with braking always at the limit, also taking advantage of the fall at 4 laps from the end of compatriot Jorge Martin. When asked about this, Acosta responded as follows: “Using Jorge’s fall is certainly not the best way to get on the podium, but it should also be underlined in the two laps before his fall I was about to catch him. In general, however, I am happy to have finished the race, improving the results that KTM achieved on this track last season. Today we remained close to the leading riders and we managed to create a good gap with the first rider behind us, thanks to a bike that was very fast: these are positive aspects, so we’ll try tomorrow”.

The podium of this Sprint takes on further value for Acosta and for the GasGas team also in light of a Friday and a qualifying session with some complications for the Spaniard, also thanks to a couple of crashes and the difficulties that Mugello historically presents to the riders : “It was a very nice Sprint, especially because gods emerged notable improvements from previous sessions and, even if today we still lacked something to stay in front, the pace was good and by refining some details we can fight tomorrow. Mugello is also one of my favorite circuits and one of the best in the championship, where you can have a lot of fun.”

The Tuscan track is certainly one of the most fascinating of the World Championship and also offers numerous technical challenges for the teams in setting up the bike, due to very different sections and corners, with a series of ups and downs, bends, fast sequences and a long straight which put technicians and pilots to the test. And right at the end of the famous Mugello straight Acosta delighted the public with a splendid overtaking on an exceptional “staccator” like Brad BinderKTM standard bearer with whom the Spaniard could share the garage next season, given the signature made official a few hours ago between Acosta and KTM Factory for a multi-year contract starting from 2025. And precisely on the challenge with his future teammate #31 intervened as follows: In the end it’s always difficult to fight with Brad, but we are getting to have a setting that helps me brake hard and stop the bike. In fact, sometimes, trying to brake like he does, the bike always slipped a little and I often went too far and in general made some mistakes that prevented me from being fast. We are trying a setting that brings more stability to the front and helps avoid some errors”.

Before leaving the microphones and after answering questions regarding his Sprint, Pedro Acosta then indulged in a driver market themed jokecommenting in particular on the rumors that they would like one between Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez riding the Official Ducati starting next season. It’s like a soap operaI enjoy it a lot. The time has come to reveal the endingbut still no one is saying anything and everyone is pretending not to know anything about the rider who will ride the Ducati next year.”
