Solid and concrete. Hubert Hurkacz confirms himself as a great specialist on grass pitches, reaching for the second time in his career the Final in the ATP500 in Halle (Germany). Also on the German lawns is the world no.4, Alexander Zverev, he had to give in to the Pole. On the score of 7-6 (2) 6-4, the ATP n.9 imposed himself, demonstrating his excellent transition towards the net and his ability to read situations on such a particular surface. Hurkacz, therefore, awaits the name of the winner of the other semi-final between Jannik Sinner and Chinese Zhizhen Zhang.
In the first set, after a decidedly on-serve start, it is Zverev who creates the first opportunities to go one break ahead. Sascha has four opportunities on his racket in the seventh game, but Hurkacz is very good at holding on to serve and saving himself. Everything is decided in the tie-break and the Pole is the emblem of perfection. Constantly pinching the German’s forehand, which has a decidedly lower performance than the backhand, Hubi makes the fraction his own with a score of 7-2.
In the second set Hurkacz is super pragmatic. In the third game he understands that there is a possibility of starting the exchange and with the advantages he manages to break the serve from the host, courageously taking the initiative. A break ahead, the world no. 9 does nothing wrong and does not give his opponent any chance of a counter-break. The curtain falls on the score of 6-4.
Reading the statistics, the 17 aces scored by Hurkacz were impressive, considering 75% of first serves on court and 81% of points won, while with second serves he collected 56%. Zverev didn’t perform as convincingly and ended up paying a high price in the long run.
