“And you filmed everything”

Jannik Sinner did not hide his emotion during a video interview conducted in his Sesto. The world number one retraced the stages of his childhood.

The whole young life of Jannik Sinner it passed in front of him when he returned to his Sesto. The world number one revisited the places where he grew up, receiving unprecedented affection. It is difficult to explain in words the emotions experienced by the Italian tennis player, who nevertheless tried to tell the story of his life as a child.

Sinner talks about his childhood in Sesto, he finds it hard to believe it

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since that frail boy with that thick red hair took his first steps in sport and tennis. Looking at his land today, Sinner almost finds it hard to believe that his climb began right there, among those wonderful mountains: “Imagine that this could be where a tennis player comes from is very, very strange”.

Sinner between skiing, tennis and football in Sesto, what his life was like

Little Sinner was divided between school, family and sport and remembers everything as if it were yesterday: “I went to school here, at least for the first five years – he tells the ATP website – My house is here, but my parents always worked which is why, I also lived in another house with my grandmother and grandfather. They always cooked for me, and then I immediately put on my ski suit because I went skiing from two to four“.

Jannik’s emotion when he remembers his first steps in tennis

From one sport to another, Sinner also began to take his first steps on the tennis court. It is at this moment that Jannik gasps and becomes emotional, looking right in the direction of the places where his exceptional adventure began: “Twice I played tennis… and then that was it. And you filmed everything.”

Also because the thought probably also went to his parents, who always left him free to choose the sport to practice. This is why he dedicated the victory in Australia to them Jannik who says: “And sometimes I also played football because we trained on the tennis court. In fact we had two fields and we used a kind of net, which we fixed with string. So we spent all our time with friends.”.

A happy and simple childhood for Sinner, not “contaminated” by the presence of smartphones or social media. This is what emerges from her story: “None of us had a phone. We only had a watch because our parents told us we had to be home at 5pm. Sometimes I would arrive at 5.15pm and then they would get a little angry but they understood.”
