Ahead of the Portuguese Grand Prix, Ducati has officially confirmed the signing of Moto2 rider Fermin Aldeguer. The Spaniard, who like Pedro Acosta comes from the Murcia region, has signed a two-year contract for the 2025-20626 MotoGP period, with the possibility of extension for another two years. However, Borgo Panigale has not yet confirmed which team the young middle class talent will race in next year.
Aldeguer without a specific destination
The most obvious destination for Aldeguer should be satellite team Pramac, as Jorge Martin has made it known that this will be his last season with Paolo Campinoti’s team. The Madrilenian is definitely aiming for the Ducati factory, otherwise he will change manufacturer. Pramac team manager Gino Borsoi responded positively when asked if he would like to have Aldeguer in the pits next year. The Spanish rider himself said during the Portimao weekend that he expects to be in Pramac in the next MotoGP championship… But there is nothing official yet.
The reason is soon to be said. Mauro Grassilli, Ducati’s new sporting director, underlined on Thursday in Portimao that Pramac will decide whether Aldeguer will ride for the satellite team next year. But the contract between Ducati and Pramac expires at the end of the year! There is an automatic extension clause for 2025-2026, but also an exit clause. If Campinoti’s team were to opt for this second hypothesis, Aldeguer would therefore have to automatically move to the official Ducati team, given that the company does not have the right to choose the riders for its customer teams. In the theoretical scenario of an end to the Pramac-Ducati collaboration, the official team would find Bagnaia and Aldeguer side by side.
Yamaha is looking for a satellite team
Grassilli’s statement was not accidental in Portimao, given that Pramac has the reins of the team’s future in its hands. If there were interesting offers from other producers, he could also take a different direction, after many years of collaboration. A decision will have to be made before the summer break, even if everything suggests that the marriage will continue for a long time. In the last three years Pramac has been the best satellite team on the field. Last year they became world team champions for the first time. However, things are different in VR46: Valentino Rossi’s team is thinking of switching to Yamaha.
