Checco Zalone reaches another record and confirms his status as king of the Italian box office. His new film, ‘Buen Camino’, has made an unprecedented opening at the box office: in its first four days of programming, from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th December, the film grossed almost 27 million eurosbecoming in just 96 hours the highest grossing film of the entire 2025. The exact takings are 26,921,300 euros, an average of 34,847 euros in 771 cinemas, 3,316,838 spectators and a market share of 71.4%. This is the best opening ever for a film released during the Christmas period.
Il overwhelming success of ‘Buen Camino’ had a knock-on effect on the entire film industrywhich over the weekend recorded growth of 256.5% compared to the previous weekend and 87% over the same period in 2024. With this result, the film directed by Gennaro Nunziante jumps directly to the top of the ranking of the films with the highest grossing in Italy for the calendar year 2025.
Dopo ‘Buen Camino’, the top 10 of the most watched films in Italy from January 1st to December 28th 2025continues with: ‘Lilo & Stitch’ (22,318,920); ‘Madly’ (17,954,560); ‘Zootopia 2’ (15,955,616); ‘Avatar: Fire and Ashes’ (15,089,521); ‘A Minecraft Movie (11,974,623); ‘Jurassic World’ (10,982,619); ‘Diamanti’ (9,830,399 but the takings are higher considering the release on 19 December 2024); ‘I Am the End of the World’ (9,736,428) and ‘The Conjuring’ (9,512,323).
Il data of ‘Buen Camino’ is also significant when compared with Zalone’s previous successes. ‘Quo Vado’ had opened at 22,792,000 euros and ‘Tolo Tolo’ at 30,251,903 but the comparison must be read in light of an important fact: both those films had been released on New Year’s Eve, historically the strongest day of the year for the Italian box office, and ‘Tolo Tolo’ had benefited from one more day than ‘Buen Camino’ (January 1, 2020 was a Wednesday).
‘Buen Camino’, distributed by Medusa Film, is produced by Marco Cohen, Benedetto Habib, Fabrizio Donvito, Daniel Campos Pavoncelli and is an Indiana Production production with Medusa Film in collaboration with MZL and in collaboration with Netflix made by Indiana Production, a Vuelta company.
