Lily-Rose Depp, aka Ellen Hutter, screams as a hand wraps around her neck in the new trailer for Nosferatugiving a sense of the remake’s disturbing tone by Robert Eggers, who arrives in the USA at Christmas (for Italy the release date has yet to be announced. “Does evil come from within us or from beyond?”, he asks.

The film by the screenwriter and director of The Lighthouse And The Witch follows troubled young woman Ellen Hutter and a vampire’s infatuation with her. During the nearly two-minute trailer, citizens begin to sense evil approaching the city, that evil being Bill Skarsgård’s Count Orlok also known as Nosferatu. Dramatic images of screaming children, rats flooding the streets and citizens carrying coffins flash across the screen as darkness looms. Skarsgård, known for his mysterious Pennywise in the horror saga It, is rarely seen in the teaser. In recent years, Skarsgård has also starred in Barbarian, John Wick 4, Boy Kills World and it will be leads of an adaptation of the Crowarriving in August.

Depp’s portrayal of Ellen Hutter marks her return to the screen following her starring role in The Idol by Sam Levinson, canceled after its first season.

Nosferatu, a remake of FW Murnau’s 1922 horror fantasy also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Friedrich Harding, Willem Dafoe as the Professor, Nicholas Hoult as Thomas Hutter, Emma Corrin as Anna Harding and Ralph Ineson as Dr. Wilhelm Sievers.
