“Anna“, a woman fighting against concrete

They are warmed by the same sun, they breathe the same air made of salt, helichrysum and mastic. And that sea that caresses them every night cradles them and protects them. There is a form of symbiosis between Sardinia and Anna, the protagonist who also gives the title to the new film by Palermo director Marco Amenta, in theaters on the island since the 6th and throughout Italy from Thursday with Fandango, after having passed out competition at the Authors’ Days of the 2023 Venice Film Festival and awarded at numerous festivals. The film, shot entirely on the island with an almost entirely Sardinian cast, focuses on the life and story of Anna, played by Rose Aste, a young woman ready to fight for herself and her land. Beautiful, wild and magnetic like the nature of her Sardinia, Anna lives to the rhythm of the earth’s breath.

That harsh land protects her, until the day she has to protect it from the mechanical monsters who want to rape her. “Inspired by a true story that happened in Sardinia a few years ago, Anna is a story of resistance against power – explains the director – The unscrupulous power of a blind capitalism ready to destroy everything is reflected in the power of a chauvinistic and prevaricating society and by fighting the one protagonist also fights the other”.

Anna, adds Amenta, “is a woman who does not want to lower her head, she does not want to be a victim but she is not even a heroine; for me it was important to outline the portrait of a real woman, full of defects and fragility far from any stereotype “. Characteristics that the director found in Rose Aste. “I – says the actress – learned from the character of Anna what it really means to have courage, not to give up; the ability to face pain with a strength that I often lack.”
