When in 2001 Silent Hill 2 saw the light, the survival horror genre was never the same again. In any case, during the latest State of Play the release date of the game was confirmed. In this regard, it is time to take stock about everything we know about the gameincluding release date, available versions and differences from the original.

What is the plot of Silent Hill 2 Remake?

As in the original story, we will take on the role of the protagonist James Sunderlanddestroyed by the death of his wife Mary. This is until a mysterious letter calls him back to the town of Silent Hill to look for his beloved missing wife.

Once there, however, the man will find a city that is now unrecognizable, transformed by a dark evil that James will be called to investigate. Unfortunately for him, the answer to his riddle will not be the one he hoped to find.

From what we know, Silent Hill 2 Remake will follow the plot of the 2001 gamealthough we don’t know if the new game will retain the twists and plot twists seen in the original title, or if it will grant itself some license.

Silent Hill 2 vs Remake: what changes? The differences

The developers have stated that there will be differences between the two games, but that these will be reflected especially on the graphic and technical questionas well as on other peculiarities – such as dubbing.

Regarding the main characters, the developers stated:

«We preserved their emotional characteristics, working hard to show their emotions with motion capture technology.
This allows us to show emotions without having to explain them, and this is why some dialogues have been slightly modified, in order to add further nuances to the dynamics of the characters.»

But not only that: in the remake the original voices were not usedas the developers decided that relying solely on pre-existing dialogue would limit them, preventing them from introducing gameplay improvements, such as player guidance.

In the remake, players will feel more in control of James, while maintaining the feeling of terror that characterized the original game.

There view from behind will differ from the dynamic shots of the original title, obviously hoping that the atmosphere and the degree of immersion are not damaged.

Him too puzzles of the remake have been slightly modified to propose a new version of the same, without however changing too much on the theme. Here are the developers’ words on the matter:

«We are very committed to enhance the memory of the original Silent Hill 2sometimes twisting and confusing players’ expectations about certain puzzle solutions, in a sort of tribute to the inventiveness of the original game.
We believe that this approach, along with the game’s numerous and often surprising references to the original, will make fans of the classic Silent Hill 2 happy, while at the same time offering something new and interesting to discover. We like to think that it’s our way of expressing our love for the original game, enriching the experience and always maintaining its essence.”

Who are the characters in Silent Hill 2 Remake?

The first is the protagonist of the game, James Sunderlandcommitted to unraveling the mystery surrounding his missing wife named Mary.

Mary she is instead one of the most enigmatic characters among those encountered by James, given that she is physically identical to Mary although decidedly more sensual and flashy.

We have then Angela Oroscoa disturbed and unstable girl searching for her mother, but with a past marked by traumas of all kinds.

In the end, Laura she is an 8 year old girl and has the peculiarity of not seeing the monsters that roam the town of Silent Hill. This makes her, in fact, an “innocent” character, very different from the other protagonists of the game, involved in one way or another in situations of pain and atrocities.

In any case, the new cast of voice actors allowed us to resume the interpretations of the original game. Luke Roberts and Salóme Gunnarsdóttir they will play the roles of James and Mary/Maria.

Gianna Kiehl it will instead be Angela Orosco, while Evie Templeton will take care of giving the face to the young woman Laura.
