After the return of the series in style with The Hunger Games – The Rime of the Nightingale and the Serpent, the writer Suzanne Collins surprised fans with an important announcement: next year the new Hunger Games novel.
The writer revealed to the Associated Press that ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’, the fifth official chapter of the franchise coming out on May 18, 2025it will show up as a prequel and will be set 40 years after the events of ‘The Rime of the Nightingale and the Serpent’. Collins then talked about the plot of this new novel, which apparently will delve into the most dystopian corners of society:
“With ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ I was inspired by David Hume’s ideas about implicit submission and, in his words, the ‘ease with which the many are governed by the few’ […] The story also lent itself to a deeper reflection on the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative [nella società]. The question ‘True or not true?’ It seems more pressing every day“.
For now we don’t have much other information on this project. Too early to even talk about a possible film adaptation.
Fans, however, continue to hope for the possible return of Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games, a topic on which producer Nina Jacobson spoke out during a recent interview. Jacobson said she would be happy to bring Katniss back to the big screen, but that can only happen if there is a tangible reason to do so. The heroine’s story, in fact, is over.
