Having screened at several American festivals, the film written and directed by Irish director Damian Mc Carthy is already considered one of the contemporary points of reference of the genre. Here is the trailer for Oddity.
Is titled Odditythe Irish director wrote and directed it Damian McCarthy (which debuted in 2020 with the interesting Caveat), and it is being talked about as the new reference horror film of the coming months (at least by those who have already seen it in some of the numerous festivals in which it has participated, from SXSW of Austin to that of Seattle). The story is about a murdered woman, the patient in the psychiatric hospital where her husband works who is accused of her murder, and the deceased’s twin, a self-proclaimed psychic with a passion for collecting objects believed to be cursed. And of one of these objects, in fact: a very disturbing wooden mannequin.
In the cast, not particularly well-known names such as Gwilym Lee, Carolyn Bracken, Tadhg Murphy, Caroline Menton, Jonathan French and Steve Wall. The notoriety of the protagonists matters little, since the critics have gone crazy: all the reviews collected so far by Rotten Tomatoes they are more than positive.

When Dani is brutally murdered in the remote country house she and her husband Ted are renovating, everyone suspects that she is a patient from the local mental institution, where Ted is a doctor. A year later, Dani’s blind twin sister Darcy, a self-styled psychic and collector of cursed objects, pays an unexpected visit to Ted and his new girlfriend, Yana. Convinced that her sister’s murder occurred more than anyone knows, Darcy has brought with her the most dangerous items from her cursed collection to help her get revenge.
