teases “Avengers-style events”

According to the Sonic producer, the franchise has Avengers-style potential from the Marvel universe and previews how it can evolve after the third film.

Sonic it could last a long time, at least according to recent statements from the producer of the franchise. With a third film in the works scheduled for release December 2024 and an upcoming television series on Paramount+, the Sonic universe based on the video games of the same name would have a long life. Regarding the third chapter starring the famous blue hedgehog, the producer Toby Ascher revealed that the franchise has always aimed for potential at the level of Avengers in Marvel style by introducing characters worthy of further study, albeit at a later time.

Sonic, the producer hopeful about the franchise: the third chapter will be in Avengers style

The first film adaptation of Sonic – The Movie based on the video game series of the same name, it was released in cinemas in 2020 and directed by Jeff Fowler. To follow, the second chapter simply titled Sonic – The Movie 2 arrived in theaters in 2022 without changing director. The third chapter, however, is expected for December 2024 and will continue the adventures of the powerful blue hedgehog created with CGI animation. Thinking about the future of Sonic and the franchise, producer Toby Ascher admitted that he is hopeful about it and that he would like to explore other characters on the small screen too. A more than concrete possibility, if you consider that Knuckles got one TV series stand alone for the streaming service Paramount+ and was presented as a prequel to the third film. There isn’t much time left until the debut of Knuckles, expected in streaming on April 26, 2024 with six episodes available. Then reasoning about the potential of the franchise, Ascher revealed to the microphones of Paste Magazine Street Screen Rant:

We were really excited about expanding our characters into the universe we created on television, especially because the platform allows us to do character studies. We knew that with Shadow coming into Sonic 3 and knowing we wanted to do more, the Sonic franchise would be an Avengers-style event cinematically. They will be big, exciting stories involving many different characters. And so what television gave us was the time to delve into some of the secondary characters and build them in an interesting way.
